Raise the Red Flag, Caixin Is Back!

For those lost in the desert of official Chinese dis- information and outright lies, the good news is Caijing is returned in a new, improved guise: Caixin.

Like you, we received many heartwarming season’s greetings in recent weeks. We were reminded that good friends understand one another – and stick together through thick and thin. One friend bid us a “Happy New Decade,” while another wished us “Ten years of shining achievements. The next decade, a fresh new start.” Indeed, so we hope.

As the new decade begins, we the founding members of Caijing Magazine have moved to a new publication, Century Weekly. We’ve come a long way since launching Caijing in 1998. And we have a long way to go. The task ahead calls for vision and strenuous effort.

What are our goals at Century Weekly? The answer is simple: Support professional journalism, push forward reforms in China, and protect the public’s right to know while chronicling, objectively and thoughtfully, our nation in transition. We firmly believe this is a valuable and achievable objective at this critical stage of national history.

A glimpse at our future can be found in our past. We’ve built a record of professional responsibility and experience which, together with our ideals, will shape our new endeavor. This record has and will continue to stand the test of time. So over the next decade, we expect to realize additional opportunities for creativity and growth.

I need some good friends, some people who understand. Someone who understands Peak Oil would be a good point of departure.

For those who have forgotten, Caijing was one of the few uncensored news sources about business in China. Veteran journalist Hu Shuli was able to outmaneuver her bosses and the officialdom … until she couldn’t any longer. After leaving Caijing with her staff, she has reappeared in the current iteration. Along with her old staff, economist Andy Xie is also featured.

We now live in interesting times both in China and in the USA. Good luck! We all will need it!
